This policy explains what information Big Marvs Legacy Inc (“Big Marv’s Legacy”, “we” or “us”) collects through bigmarvslegacy.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dog rescue in Chino, California (EIN 39-4923138). We do not sell or rent your personal information.
Information you give us
- Adoption, foster and surrender applications. Your name, contact details, address, household, home and pets, references, veterinarian, and anything else you choose to write in the form.
- Adoption contracts. Your details, the dog’s details, your initials and signatures, and your answers to each clause.
- Questions and messages. What you send through the contact form or the question form on a dog’s page. If you save a form to finish later, we keep what you have entered so far.
- Donations. Gifts are made through Givebutter. Givebutter and its payment processors handle your card or bank details, and we never see or store them. We see your name, email, the amount and any note you add, so we can thank you, and the mailing address for monthly donors we send a welcome gift to.
- Email. What you send to info@bigmarvslegacy.com.
Information collected automatically
- Server logs. Our web host records each request, including your IP address, browser and the page asked for.
- Form records. Our form software records your IP address and the date and time with each submission.
- Google Analytics. Google Analytics uses cookies to record the pages you visit, how you reached the site, your device and browser, and your approximate area, which Google works out from your IP address. We also record events such as a submitted application, a completed donation or a click on a wishlist. These events carry no names, emails or answers from the forms.
- Google Ads. When you arrive from one of our Google ads, Google measures whether the visit led to an application, a donation or a wishlist click, so we can see which ads help the dogs.
- Microsoft Clarity. Clarity uses cookies to record how visitors use the pages (clicks, taps, scrolling and mouse movement) as heatmaps and session recordings, which we use to find and fix parts of the site that are hard to use.
- Dog page views. Your browser keeps a note of the date you last viewed each dog’s page, so a visit is counted once a day. The count is a number per dog and holds nothing about you.
- Contract links. When you open an adoption contract link we sent you, a cookie keeps the link open for 3 hours while you complete the contract.
Location
We do not ask for your device’s location. Applications and questions sent before October 2026 may include an approximate location recorded by the form. If you would like it deleted, email info@bigmarvslegacy.com.
How we use it
- To review applications, match dogs with adopters and fosters, and keep in touch about a dog.
- To prepare, sign and keep adoption contracts.
- To answer your questions and messages.
- To process donations, send receipts and thank donors.
- To understand how the site is used, measure our ads, and make the site work better.
- To keep the site secure and meet our legal and tax obligations.
Who we share it with
- Our team. The volunteers and staff who review applications and care for the dogs.
- Your references and veterinarian. We contact the people you list in an application to check it.
- Service providers. Our web host, Givebutter for donations, Google for analytics and ads, Microsoft for Clarity, and our email delivery service. Each handles information only to provide its service to us.
- Our adoption sponsor. When a dog is adopted, we send a copy of the signed adoption contract to Subaru, which reimburses part of the cost of each adoption.
- When the law requires it. To comply with a legal obligation, or to protect the safety of a person or an animal.
How long we keep it
We keep applications, contracts and messages for as long as we need them for a dog’s care and adoption record, and donation records for as long as tax law requires. You can ask us to delete your information at any time, and we will unless we must keep it by law. Google and Microsoft keep analytics data for the periods set in their own services.
Your choices
- You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The site still works without them, apart from contract links, which need their cookie while you sign.
- You can opt out of Google Analytics with Google’s browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, and manage ad personalization at adssettings.google.com.
- Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland have analytics and ad cookies off by default.
- To see, correct or delete the information we hold about you, email info@bigmarvslegacy.com. California residents may also ask what personal information we collect and how we use it.
Data from Google services
We run a Google Cloud project that our own tools use to manage the rescue’s Google Ads account and to read reports from the rescue’s Google Analytics, Google Search Console and Google Ads accounts. It connects through a service account that belongs to the rescue.
- What it accesses. Only the rescue’s own Google Ads, Google Analytics and Google Search Console accounts: our campaign settings and results, site traffic and search reports. It never asks you to sign in with Google, and it cannot see your Google account, email, contacts, calendar or files.
- How we use it. To run our ad campaigns and to see how the site and the ads perform, the same purposes described under “How we use it” above.
- How we store and protect it. The data stays in those Google services. The project’s key is kept as a secret, never published and never stored in our website code. Figures we copy into our own planning documents are open only to our team.
- Who we share it with. We do not sell it or share it with anyone, except the service providers who help us review it for the rescue, including the AI assistant we use to read reports. Each handles it only to provide its service to us.
- How long we keep it. Google keeps the account data for the periods its services set. Copies in our planning documents are kept while they are useful, and we delete them on request at info@bigmarvslegacy.com.
Our use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We never use it for advertising aimed at a person, never sell it to data brokers or information resellers, never use it to decide credit or lending, and never use it, or let anyone use it, to train general AI or machine learning models.
Children
The site is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. Applicants must be adults. If you believe a child has sent us information, email us and we will delete it.
Security
The site uses HTTPS, and only our team can open applications and contracts. No method of sending or storing information is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.
Links to other sites
The site links to other sites, such as our Amazon wishlists, our merch shop, Adopt-a-Pet, Givebutter and our social media pages. Their own privacy policies apply there.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy, we update the date at the top of this page. If we change how we use data from Google services, we will say so on this page before the change takes effect.
